Fiscal Justice

Fiscal Justice goes beyond technical tax or budget systems. In broad terms, it relates to power, politics and supporting people to fight inequality. In this programme, our main priority area of focus is Fiscal Transparency and Accountability (FTA):

Fiscal Transparency and Accountability

Fiscal Transparency and Accountability are critical for promoting sustainable economic growth and development at both national and sub-national level of government. Fiscal policies and management practices have a significant impact on revenue mobilization strategies, public debt, allocation of resources, public spending, quality service delivery and the overall performance of the economy.

CFA firmly believes that since everyone, in one way or the other, pays taxes, it is therefore every citizen’s right and duty to know how their government raises and manages public finances. To this end, we strive to position itself as the to-go-to think-tank providing timely and accurate tax policy and public spending analysis both at the national and sub-national level.

Our approach to Fiscal justice means building the capacity of citizens including women, youth and PLWDs to take an active role in demanding transparency and accountability in public resource mobilization (including, but not limited to, taxation and public debt), public spending, participation in the budget-making process and influencing public finance reforms at both national and sub-national level of government.
